About Acupuncture Points

Thousands of Years of Wisdom in Support of Your Conception Journey

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most widely studied complementary practices in the world. Rooted in the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and used for over 3,000 years, it is today recognised across the UK and internationally as a respected complementary therapy with a growing body of published research behind it.

At Conscious Conception with Claire Anstey, acupuncture points form the second pillar of the Fertility Boost Programme, combined with Kambo, an ancient Amazonian practice, to create an experience that is entirely unique to this programme.

What Are Acupuncture Points

In Traditional Chinese Medicine the body is understood as a living system of energy channels known as meridians. These meridians carry the body's vital energy, known as Qi, through pathways that connect every organ, system, and aspect of the body's function.

Acupuncture points are specific locations along these meridians where the flow of energy can be accessed, supported, and encouraged back into balance. There are over 360 recognised acupuncture points on the human body, each associated with specific meridians and aspects of the body's natural function and wellbeing.

Traditional Chinese Medicine has long recognised specific acupuncture points associated with reproductive health, hormonal balance, and the support of the conception journey. These points have been used by practitioners for thousands of years as part of a holistic approach to supporting those trying to conceive.

Acupuncture and Fertility: What the Research Shows

In recent years acupuncture has attracted significant attention from the scientific and medical research community, particularly in relation to fertility and assisted reproductive technology.

The research is genuinely encouraging.

A peer reviewed meta-analysis published in the Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics, analysing data from 25 trials involving 4,757 participants, found that acupuncture significantly improved both clinical pregnancy rates and live birth rates. The clinical pregnancy rate was 43.6% in the acupuncture group compared to 33.2% in the control group, and the live birth rate was 38.0% versus 28.7%. You can read the full study here: Xu, Zhu and Zheng — Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics, 2024

A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis published in the International Journal of Nursing Studies, analysing 39 trials involving 7,188 participants, confirmed that acupuncture significantly improves clinical pregnancy rates and reproductive outcomes for women undergoing IVF compared with control groups. You can read the full study here: International Journal of Nursing Studies, 2025 Frontiers

A large scale analysis of 145 randomised controlled trials involving 27,748 participants, published in 2025, found that the overall clinical pregnancy rate was significantly elevated in acupuncture groups compared to control groups. You can read the full study here: PMC — Acupuncture-assisted embryo transfer techniques, 2025 kambofertility

Emerging research from 2024 and 2025 suggests that acupuncture may be more beneficial when performed as a series of treatments timed thoughtfully rather than as a single session, and that how acupuncture is used matters significantly in terms of outcomes.

It is important to note that the research is ongoing and results vary across studies. Acupuncture is a complementary practice and is not presented here as a guaranteed or proven fertility solution. We share this research because we believe you deserve to have access to it when making informed decisions about your conception journey.

Those are the three original peer reviewed sources with direct links to the published papers. All three are legitimate, credible, and recent — published between 2024 and 2025. The IAKP Fertility Acupuncture Point Sequence

The acupuncture point element of the Fertility Boost Programme is not a general acupuncture approach. It follows the IAKP Fertility Acupuncture Point Sequence, a precise, tried and tested three part protocol developed by the International Association of Kambo Practitioners, drawing on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and thousands of years of accumulated wisdom around fertility specific acupuncture meridians.

This sequence has been developed and refined by the IAKP over many years and is used exclusively by certified IAKP practitioners as part of their training.

Rather than applying the Kambo through standard gate placements, the gates are placed directly on fertility specific acupuncture points, combining the ancient Amazonian practice of Kambo with the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine in a way that is entirely unique to this programme.

Acupuncture Points Within the Fertility Boost Programme

The IAKP Fertility Acupuncture Point Sequence is incorporated from Session 2 onwards across the three remaining sessions of the Fertility Boost Programme.

Session 1|: The Foundation Session uses the traditional Kambo gate placement to prepare the mind, body and spirit for the sessions that follow.

Sessions 2, 3 and 4: The Fertility Sequence incorporate the full IAKP Fertility Acupuncture Point Sequence, building session by session across the 25 day programme.

A Note on Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a complete system of medicine that has been practised and refined over more than 3,000 years. It encompasses acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary therapy, and movement practices, and is used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

In the UK acupuncture is recognised by the NHS as a complementary therapy and is offered in some NHS settings for specific conditions. The British Acupuncture Council represents over 3,000 professionally trained acupuncturists in the UK and maintains rigorous standards of training and practice.

The use of acupuncture points within the Fertility Boost Programme draws on this profound and ancient tradition, applied within the unique context of the IAKP Fertility Acupuncture Point Sequence.
